3 Toothbrush Shopping Tips

Shopping for a new toothbrush can be tough! If you feel overwhelmed by all the options, you’re not alone. It’s a big decision and we’re here to help. Read on for 3 toothbrush shopping tips to help you find the toothbrush that is the best fit for your dental care needs.
1. Choose Manual or Electric
The first decision to make when shopping for a toothbrush is whether to get a toothbrush that is manual or electric. Manual toothbrushes have many advantages. They are typically more cost-effective to replace, smaller for travel, and they don’t require electricity if you’re camping or traveling someplace without reliable access to electricity.
Electric toothbrushes also have lots of advantages. Countless features are now standard, such as built-in timers, pressure sensors, variable speeds, different brush head attachments, and integrated smartphone app capability.
If you’re having trouble deciding which is best for your needs, the next tip is for you!
2. Decide Which Features You Need
When sharing toothbrush shopping tips with our patients, we always make sure to emphasize that each patients’ needs are unique, so the right toothbrush for someone else might not be the best one for you!
It can be helpful to start by making a list of which features you need in a toothbrush. If you have a smaller mouth or still have your wisdom teeth, the size of the brush head might be important to be able to reach all the way back. Or if your gums are extra sensitive, choosing a brush with gentle massaging action might be useful. If you tend to brush aggressively, a pressure sensor can be helpful. Or if you often feel like you rush through your brushing routine, it’s important to make sure your brush has a built-in timer to remind you to slow down and brush every tooth thoroughly.
3. Talk with Your Dentist
Last but not least, if you have more questions when shopping for a toothbrush, don’t hesitate to reach out and ask your dentist! Your dentist is here to help you keep your smile healthy, beautiful, and strong, and will be glad to assist you however they can. Your dentist will likely be able to offer toothbrush shopping tips tailored specifically to your dental care needs and goals so that you can find the toothbrush that is truly the best fit for you.
