Knowing the Basics of Dental Veneers

Getting dental veneers can be a very simple procedure, and it can help your teeth go from looking alright, or even having a few issues with your teeth, to looking outstanding. There are many imperfections that dental veneers can help cover up, giving you a smile you can be proud to show off. If you are considering doing something about minor imperfections with your smile, dental veneers may be the solution you have been looking for.
Who Can Benefit From Dental Veneers?
There are a lot of people who could benefit from getting a set of dental veneers. Since veneers are a very thin sheet of porcelain that is shaped to match your existing teeth, you need to make sure that the imperfections can be covered with these sheets. If you have something like a small gap between your teeth or teeth that are slightly crooked, veneers are a great solution. The same goes if you have chipped or discolored teeth, as these sheets cover those imperfections easily. However, if you have gaps where a tooth is missing, or have nearly no healthy enamel left on your natural tooth, then you are going to need to seek out a different type of dental repair.
What Is the Procedure for Dental Veneers?
To get dental veneers, you have to go through a few different steps, including:
- Getting a mold made of your mouth
- Having your teeth ground slightly to rough up the surface, giving the veneers something to bond to
- Getting the veneers made for you
- Coming back in to have the veneers fitted to your teeth
- Adhering the veneers to your teeth and fixing any imperfections or fit issues
- Smiling with confidence and pride!
It usually only takes a short amount of time once the veneers are created, to get you back into the office and have them put on. Once you have your veneers in place, you then maintain your teeth like normal! Avoid anything that would stain your teeth, as those same things will stain the porcelain of your veneers as well. Expect your veneers to last you around ten years before they would need to be replaced. So long as you take care of them properly, they will help keep your smile looking great for the entire life of the veneer!
