Porcelain veneers are tooth-colored shells that are bonded to the front of teeth to improve the appearance of the patient’s smile. Veneers are routinely used to fix chipped, broken, discolored or worn down teeth. They can also be used to close gaps between teeth and fix misaligned, uneven, or irregularly shaped teeth.
Veneers are not always the only answer to the problem. Sometimes the answer is to reposition the teeth prior to restoration. If the teeth are properly positioned, this allows for room to ensure that the veneers are the appropriate size for you.
If you and your dentist do decide to proceed with veneers, you must take care not to break off, chip, or wear down the veneers or a replacement surgery might be necessary. If the teeth are restored correctly in the proper place, you can look forward to increased longevity, increased comfort, and a very beautiful smile as a result.
